I choose the initials of my LLC. I do like the second design, the first one feels like it could be on a can of orange soda or a tube of suntan lotion. For the first I used Hobo font, and Britannia for the second one.
Okay...I agree the second is more subtle and much stronger... Try a couple where you use a layer blend... in the layers palette, there is a drop down that says "normal" With 2 letters overlapped, try different blend modes such as darken, multiply, difference, etc.
I also like how in the blue and white design, the letters fill the frame.
